With so much vitriol and division in our politics, we may wan to just totally disengage from public life. As Pope Benedict XVI taught, however, that the duty to work for a just society falls upon the laity.
Prayer
Lord, help me to better know you and your commands. While many messages pummel me every day, I know that I can turn to you to guide me along the right path. This year, I have a decision to make that impacts the nation that I live in. There are many people who disagree with me and seem to reject your teaching. Lord, you have willed that we be in the world but not of it. Help me to be honest and charitable as I work for the cause of justice in my family and community. Protect and guide politicians leaders so that they too may work to promote good in the world you created.
