When we debate and discuss politics, do we try to be right or do we try to understand? So often we may want to “own” our opponent that we forget that they too have dignity as human persons with whom we disagree.
Prayer
Lord, help me to better know you and your commands. While many messages pummel me every day, I know that I can turn to you to guide me along the right path. This year, I have a decision to make that impacts the nation that I live in. There are many people who disagree with me and seem to reject your teaching. Give me patience and a charitable tongue so that I can preach the Gospel to those with whom I dialogue. Protect and guide politicians leaders so that they too may work to promote good in the world you created.
